St. Kitts and Nevis Hosts 50th CARICOM Summit; PM Drew Meets US Secretary Marco Rubio

In a historic diplomatic milestone, the Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts) and Nevis hosted the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in the capital city of Basseterre. The summit gathered regional heads under the theme 'Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM' and was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew.

A key highlight of the conference was the participation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who traveled to St. Kitts and Nevis to engage with Caribbean leaders. The discussions focused on bolstering regional security, combatting transnational criminal organizations, reducing the illicit flow of firearms, promoting sustainable economic growth, and enhancing energy cooperation.

Following the plenary sessions, Secretary Rubio held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Terrance Drew. They discussed issues of national importance to St. Kitts and Nevis and ways to deepen strategic cooperation between the United States and the twin-island Federation. Prime Minister Drew welcomed the U.S. administration's commitment to prioritizing collaboration in the Western Hemisphere.
